Can't even beg to volunteer

Well...here it is...the birth of my worse nightmare. I went into interview at an organization today and was WILLING TO VOLUNTEER and I still have doubts as to whether or not they're going to let me work. You know that you're in a field that is overcrowded when you can't even get a job working for free. I thought that the interview went well. They introduced me to everyone in the office and all but made me make out my schedule and it ended with a firm "we'll let you know in a couple of days." I ran into one of the other clerks at school (who I met for the first time at the place today) and she was none too courteous. She's like, "I thought she said you went to X." The lady that introduced me got her wires crossed and introduced me as being from a different school. To this I replied, "She did, but I didn't want to correct her-" which is what I've been trained to do. And the girl just kind of walked off. Whether I caught her at a bad time or I seriously cannot even get a job volunteering! What does it take now a days to get something? I don't care what it is! I don't care what I do! I just want to get started on my life. Otherwise I'm just going to spend $80000 on a degree I can't use! I should have just stayed in undergrad long enough to get my GPA up high enough to go to the school I wanted instead of just taken the only offer I thought I would get! BLEH!!! Will I ever get out of here?
